The best and worst qualities of women

bayhaqi:13478Abū Ṭāhir al-Faqīh > Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Qaṭṭān > Abū al-Azhar > Abū Ṣāliḥ ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣāliḥ > Mūsá b. ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ > ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ > Abū Udhaynah al-Ṣadafī

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The best of your women are the loving, fertile, compliant, and supportive, if they fear Allah ﷻ. The worst of your women are those who make a display ˹of their beauty˺ and behave arrogantly; they are the hypocrites. None of them will enter Paradise except as rare as the white-marked crow."

It has also been narrated with an authentic chain from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from the Prophet ﷺ, as a mursal report up to his saying: "if they fear Allah ﷻ."

Raising the hands and pointing with the finger in prayer

ahmad:18877Hāshim b. al-Qāsim > Shuʿbah > ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb > Abī > Wāʾil al-Ḥaḍramī

He saw the Prophet ﷺ pray: he said the takbir and raised his hands; when he bowed, he raised his hands; and when he raised his head from bowing, he raised his hands. He kept his arms away from his sides in his bowing, and kept them away in his prostration. When he sat to recite the tashahhud, he placed his right thigh upon the left, placed his right hand, pointed with his index finger, and formed a circle with the middle finger.

Concessions in telling a lie for reconciliation, war, and between spouses

that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The liar is not the one who reconciles between people: he says good, and conveys good."

Ibn Shihab ˹al-Zuhri˺ said: I have not heard of permission being granted in anything that people call lying except in three cases: war, reconciliation between people, a man’s speech to his wife, and a woman’s speech to her husband.

Completing Hajj after reaching Arafah by night or day

I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at the standing place (Arafah), and I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have come from the mountain of Tayy; I have worn out my riding mount and exhausted myself. By Allah, there was no mountain among those mountains except that I stood upon it.” He said: "Whoever catches this prayer with us —that is, the morning prayer— and had come to Arafah before that, by night or day, has completed his Hajj and fulfilled his tafath."

Among the Companions, Abd al-Rahman b. Yamar al-Dawli corroborated Urwah b. al-Mudarris in narrating this Sunnah.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If he becomes intoxicated, flog him; then if he becomes intoxicated, flog him; then if he becomes intoxicated, flog him; then if he returns a fourth time, kill him."

Abu Dawud said: Likewise is the hadith of Umar b. Abu Salamah, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ: "If he drinks wine, flog him; then if he returns a fourth time, kill him." Abu Dawud said: Likewise is the hadith of Suhayl, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ: "If they drink a fourth time, kill them." Likewise is the hadith of Ibn Abi Nu'm, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ; likewise the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr, from the Prophet ﷺ; and al-Sharid, from the Prophet ﷺ. In the hadith of al-Jadali, from Muawiyah, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Then if he returns on the third or the fourth time, kill him."

Blessing for preserving and conveying knowledge, and three traits of a sincere Muslim heart

tirmidhi:2658Ibn Abū ʿUmar > Sufyān > ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd from his father

from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "May Allah brighten ˹the face of˺ a man who hears a saying of mine, so he internalizes it, remembers it, and conveys it ˹to others˺. Perhaps he carries ˹its˺ understanding to the one who has more understanding than him. There are three ˹qualities˺ that will not cause rancor in the heart of a Muslim toward ˹others˺: (1) sincerity in the deeds for ˹the sake of˺ Allah, (2) giving sincere advice to the leaders / religious authority of the Muslims, and (3) staying involved within their community for their dua guards them from behind them."

How Allah makes one person a means of provision for another

tirmidhi:2345Muḥammad b. Bashshār > Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Thābit > Anas b. Mālik

There were two brothers during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. One of them used to come to the Prophet ﷺ ˹to learn˺, while the other ˹used to˺ work ˹and earn˺. The one who worked complained about his brother to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: "Perhaps you are provided for because of him."

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

The camel speaks to clear the Bedouin of theft accusations

hakim:4236Abū Muḥammad al-Ḥasan b. Ibrāhīm al-Aslamī al-Fārisī from Aṣl Kitābih > Jaʿfar b. Darastawayh > al-Yamān b. Saʿīd al-Miṣṣīṣī > Yaḥyá b. ʿAbdullāh al-Miṣrī > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > al-Zuhrī > Sālim > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

[AI] We were sitting around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a desert Arab—an eloquent Bedouin from Yemen—entered on a red she-camel. He made it kneel at the door of the mosque, then came in, greeted us, and sat down. When he had finished, they said, “O Messenger of Allah, the she-camel under the Bedouin is stolen.” He said, “Is there proof?” They said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He said, “O ʿAlī, take Allah’s due from the Bedouin if the proof is established against him; and if it is not established, then return him to me.”

The Bedouin lowered his head for a while. Then the Prophet ﷺ said to him, “Stand, O Bedouin, for Allah’s matter; otherwise present your argument.” Whereupon the she-camel spoke from behind the door: “By Him who sent you with honor, O Messenger of Allah, this man did not steal me, and no one has owned me other than he.” The Prophet ﷺ said to him, “O Bedouin, by Him who made her speak in your defense—what was it that you said?” He replied, “I said: O Allah, You are not a Lord whom we have newly invented, nor is there with You a god who aided You in creating us, nor is there with You any lord such that we would doubt Your lordship. You are our Lord as we say, and above what those who speak can say. I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad and to clear me by my innocence.”

The Prophet ﷺ said to him, “By Him who sent me with honor, O Bedouin, I have indeed seen the angels racing to the mouths of the alleys, writing down your words—so increase your prayers for blessings upon me.”

The transmitters of this report, from the last of them, are trustworthy; but as for Yahya b. Abdullah al-Misri, I do not know him as either reliable or discredited. He is a lier.

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , stood on a high place and we were with him. He said, "How blessed is the land of Madinah! When the Dajjal (Antichrist) appears, he will be unable to enter it. And when he does so, it will shake three times, expelling all the hypocrites. None will remain but that he will go out to him, and the majority of those who go out to him will be women. That will be the Day of Deliverance, and on that day Madinah will eliminate its impurities, just as the furnace removes impurities from iron. At that time, Madinah will have seventy thousand Jews, each of whom will be armed with a helmet and sword. These will be struck at their necks with the blow that will be with the assembly of rivers. Then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "There has never been a greater trial or will be until the Hour than the trial of the Dajjal, and there has never been a prophet who warned his people about him without me warning you about him. [AI] Ali used to say during the life of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that Allah says, "If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels?" By Allah, we will not turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us. And by Allah, if he dies or is killed, I will surely fight for what he fought for until I die. And by Allah, I am his brother, his guardian, his cousin, and his inheritor. So, who is more entitled to him than me?

How often should one fast and how quickly should do the khatm of the Quran

ahmad:6775Bahz > Hammām > Qatādah > Yazīd Akhī Muṭarrif > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr

He asked the Prophet ﷺ: “In how many days should I ˹complete˺ the Quran?” He mentioned the hadith, saying: until he said: “In seven ˹days˺; he does not understand who recites it in less than three.” He said: “How should I fast?” He said: “Fast three days of every month, one day out of every ten days, and the reward of nine days will be recorded for you.” He said: “I am stronger than that.” He said: “Then fast two days out of every ten, and the reward of eight days will be recorded for you,” until it reached five days.

Ibn Umar, when he recited the Quran, would not speak until he had finished it. One day I stayed with him, and he recited Surat al-Baqarah until he reached a certain point. He said, “Do you know about what it was revealed?” I said, “No.” He said, “It was revealed concerning such-and-such,” then he continued.
