0.28. Covering Faults of the Muslims

Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, those who love for immorality to spread among the believers will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter.” (Nur 19)

Allah conceals faults for the one who conceals the faults of others

(240) muslim:2590bAbū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > ʿAffān > Wuhayb > Suhayl from his father > Abū Hurayrah

The Prophet ﷺ said: “No servant conceals ˹the faults of˺ another servant in this world except that Allah will conceal for him on the Day of Judgement.”

All may be forgiven except for the ones who publicize their sins

(241) bukhari:6069ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. ʿAbdullāh > Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd from my cousin Ibn Shihāb > Ibn Shihāb > Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh > Abū Hurayrah

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “All of my Ummah will be pardoned except those who publicize their sins. Indeed, part of shamelessness is that a man commits a deed at night and then morning comes while Allah has concealed him. Yet he says, ‘O so-and-so, last night I did such-and-such,’ while his Lord had covered him during the night, and in the morning he reveals Allah’s covering from himself.”

(242) bukhari:2152ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > al-Layth > Saʿīd al-Maqburī from his father > Abū Hurayrah > Samiʿah

The Prophet ﷺ said: “If a maid-servant commits adultery and it is proven, then let him (the master) flog her and not reproach her. Then if she commits adultery again, let him flog her and not reproach her. Then if she commits adultery a third time, let him sell her, even if only for a rope made of hair.”

Do not help Satan against a sinner by ridiculing them

(243) bukhari:6777Qutaybah > Abū Ḍamrah Anas > Yazīd b. al-Hād > Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm > Abū Salamah from my father

A man who had drunk ˹alcohol˺ was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “Beat him!” Abu Hurayrah said: Some of us struck him with their hands, some struck him with their sandals, and some struck him with their garments. When he turned away, some people said, “May Allah disgrace you!” He said, “Do not say that; do not help Satan against him.”
