While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was leading his Companions in prayer, he took off his sandals and laid them on his left side; so when the people saw this, they removed their sandals. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he asked: What made you remove your sandals? The replied: We saw you remove your sandals, so we removed our sandals. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: Gabriel came to me and informed me that there was filth in them. When any of you comes to the mosque, he should see; if he finds filth on his sandals, he should wipe it off and pray in them.

بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ إِذْ خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَهُمَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ الْقَوْمُ أَلْقَوْا نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَتَهُ قَالَ مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى إِلْقَائِكُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ قَالُوا رَأَيْنَاكَ أَلْقَيْتَ نَعْلَيْكَ فَأَلْقَيْنَا نِعَالَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ ﷺ أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا وَقَالَ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ فَإِنْ رَأَى فِي نَعْلَيْهِ قَذَرًا أَوْ أَذًى فَلْيَمْسَحْهُ وَلْيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا

[AI] While the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was praying with his companions, he took off his sandals and placed them on his left side. So, they also took off their sandals. When he finished his prayer, he asked them, "What made you take off your sandals?" They replied, "We saw you taking off yours, so we took off ours too." He said, "Verily, Gabriel came to me or someone else came and informed me that there was something harmful or impure on them. So, when any of you come to the mosque, let him flip his sandals. If he sees something harmful, he should shake them off and pray in them."

بَيْنَمَا كان رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ إِذْ خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَهُمَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَخَلَعُوا نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى إِلْقَائِكُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا قَالَ «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَانِي أَوْ أَتَى فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا أَذًى أَوْ قَذَرًا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيُقَلِّبْ نَعْلَيْهِ فَإِنْ رَأَى فِيهِمَا أَذًى فَلْيُمِطْ وَلْيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and took off his sandals, so the people took off their sandals. When he finished, he said, "Why did you take off your sandals?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you take off your sandals, so we took off ours." He said, "Indeed, Jibril came to me and informed me that there was impurity on them. So when one of you enters the mosque, let him flip over his sandals and look at them. If he sees any impurity on them, let him touch them to the ground and then pray in them."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى فَخَلَعَنَعْلَيْهِ فَخَلَعَ النَّاسُ نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ لِمَ خَلَعْتُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا قَالَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ بِهِمَا خَبَثًا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيَقْلِبْ نَعْلَهُ فَلْيَنْظُرْ فِيهَا فَإِنْ رَأَى بِهَا خَبَثًا فَلْيُمِسَّهُ بِالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ لِيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us one day, and during some of his prayers, he took off his shoes and placed them to his left. When the people saw that, they also took off their shoes. After he finished his prayer, he asked, "What happened? Why did you all take off your shoes?" They replied, "We saw you take off your shoes, so we took off ours." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Gabriel came to me and informed me that there was impurity or harm in them, so I took them off. So when any of you come to the mosque, let him look at his shoes, and if he sees impurity or harm in them, let him wipe them and pray in them." My father did not mention the details of what was in the shoes in this narration.

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ صَلَاتِهِ خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَهُمَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَلَمَّا رَأَى النَّاسُ ذَلِكَ خَلَعُوا نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ مَا بَالُكُمْ أَلْقَيْتُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا رَأَيْنَاكَ أَلْقَيْتَ نَعْلَيْكَ فَأَلْقَيْنَا نِعَالَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا أَوْ قَالَ أَذًى فَأَلْقَيْتُهُمَا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ فِي نَعْلَيْهِ فَإِنْ رَأَى فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا أَوْ قَالَ أَذًى فَلْيَمْسَحْهُمَا وَلْيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا قَالَ أَبِي لَمْ يَجِئْ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ بَيَانُ مَا كَانَ فِي النَّعْلِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ never took off his shoes in prayer except for once. When he removed them, the people followed his example. He then asked, "Why did you do that?" They replied, "You took off your shoes, so we did too." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Gabriel informed me that there was some impurity or harm in them."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَمْ يَخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَطُّ إِلَّا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً خَلَعَ فَخَلَعَ النَّاسُ فَقَالَ «مَا لُكُمْ» قَالُوا خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا أَوْ أَذًى»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and took off his sandals. The people also took off their sandals. When he finished, he asked, "Why did you take off your sandals?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you take off your sandals, so we took off ours." He said, "Indeed, Jibril came to me and informed me that there was some impurity on them. So when one of you enters the masjid, let him flip his sandals and examine them for any impurity. If he finds any impurity, let him wipe them on the ground and then pray in them."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى فَخَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَخَلَعَ النَّاسُ نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ «لِمَ خَلَعْتُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا قَالَ «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ بِهِمَا خَبَثًا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيَقْلِبْ نَعْلَيْهِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ فِيهِمَا خَبَثٌ فَإِنْ وَجَدَ فِيهِمَا خَبَثًا فَلْيَمْسَحْهُمَا بِالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ لِيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا»

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed with us, and after he finished praying, he took off his sandals and placed them on his left side. The people also took off their sandals. When he finished his prayer, he asked, "Why did you take off your sandals?" They replied, "We saw you take off yours, so we took off ours." He said, "I did not take them off due to any discomfort, but the angel Gabriel informed me that there was some impurity on them. So, when one of you enters the mosque, let him check his sandals. If there is any impurity on them, he should wipe it off."

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَهُمَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَخَلَعَ الْقَوْمُ نِعَالَهُمْ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «مَا لَكُمْ خَلَعْتُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟ » قَالُوا رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا قَالَ «إِنِّي لَمْ أَخْلَعْهُمَا مِنْ بَأْسٍ وَلَكِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا فَإِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيَنْظُرْ فِي نَعْلَيْهِ فَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا أَذًى فَلْيَمْسَحْهُ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ took off his sandals while he was praying, so the people behind him also took off their sandals. He asked, "What made you all take off your sandals?" They replied, "We saw you take off yours, so we also took off ours." He then said, "Indeed, Jibreel ﷺ informed me that there was impurity on one of them, so I took them off for that reason. Therefore, do not take off your sandals."

خَلَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَعْلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَخَلَعَ مَنْ خَلْفَهُ نِعَالَهُمْ فَقَالَ «مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى خَلْعِ نِعَالِكُمْ؟» قَالُوا رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ ﷺ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِي إِحْدَاهُمَا قَذَرًا فَخَلَعَتْهُمَا لِذَلِكَ فَلَا تَخْلَعُوا نِعَالَكُمْ»

"إِنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ بَيْنَا هَو يُصَلِّى يَوْمًا خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ، فَخَلَعَ النَّاسُ نِعَالَهُمْ، فَلَّما انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: مَا شَأنُكُمْ؟ خَلَعْتُمْ نِعَالَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا: رَأَيْنَاكَ خَلَعْتَ فَخَلَعْنَا، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ جِبْريلَ أَتَانِى فَأَخْبَرنِى أَنَّ بِهمَا قَذَرًا، فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ الْمسْجِدَ فَليَنْظرْ نَعْلَيْهِ، فإِنْ كَانَ بِهِمَا قَذَرٌ فَليُدلّكهُمَا بِالأَرْضِ".
