While we were in the company of the Prophet ﷺ in a cave at Mina, when Surat-wal-Mursalat were revealed and he recited it and I heard it (directly) from his mouth as soon as he recited its revelation. Suddenly a snake sprang at us and the Prophet ﷺ said (ordered us): "Kill it." We ran to kill it but it escaped quickly. The Prophet ﷺ said, "It has escaped your evil and you too have escaped its evil."

بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ بِمِنًى إِذْ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ {وَالْمُرْسَلاَتِ} وَإِنَّهُ لَيَتْلُوهَا وَإِنِّي لأَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ وَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ بِهَا إِذْ وَثَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اقْتُلُوهَا فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَذَهَبَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا

We were with the Prophet ﷺ when Surat Wal-Mursalat was revealed to him. While we were receiving it from his mouth, a snake suddenly came and we ran to kill it, but it outstripped us and entered its hole quickly. Allah's le said, "It has escaped your evil, and you too, have escaped its evil."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلاَتِ وَإِنَّا لَنَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَدَخَلَتْ جُحْرَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا

While we were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave, Surat "Wal Mursalat" was revealed to him and we received it directly from his mouth as soon as he had received the revelation. Suddenly a snake came out and Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Get at it and kill it!" We ran to kill it but it outstripped us. Allah's Apostle said, "It has escaped your evil, as you too, have escaped its."

We were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when there was revealed to him (the Sura al-Mursalat, i. e. Sura lxxvii.:" By those sent forth to spread goodness" ) and we had just heard (it) from his lips that there appeared before us a snake. He said: Kill it. We hastened to kill it, but it slipped away from us, thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah saved it from your harm just as he saved you from its evil.

"We were with the Messenger of Allah in Al-Khaif, which is in Mina, when the following was revealed: 'By the winds sent forth one after another.' A snake came out, and the Messenger of Allah said: 'Kill it.' So they rushed to kill, but it went back into its hole."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْخَيْفِ مِنْ مِنًى حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ { وَالْمُرْسَلاَتِ عُرْفًا } فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اقْتُلُوهَا فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَدَخَلَتْ فِي جُحْرِهَا

[AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave when the messengers of Allah came down to him with knowledge. I took hold of it from him and his mouth was still moist with it. I am not sure which of these verses he sealed with: "So which Hadith after it will they believe?" (Quran 77:50) or "And when it is said to them, 'Bow down [in prayer],' they do not bow down." (Quran 77:48) A serpent preceded us and entered a hole. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You have been saved from its evil, and it has been saved from your evil."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَأَخَذْتُهَا مِنْ فِيهِ وَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ بِهَا فَلَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهَا خَتَمَ {فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ} [المرسلات 50] [أَوْ] {وَإِذَا قِيلَلَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ} [المرسلات 48] ؟ سَبَقَتْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَدَخَلَتْ فِي جُحْرٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدْ وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا وَوُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ

[AI] "We were with the messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when the Surah Al-Mursalat (The Sending Forth) was revealed to him. He said, 'Indeed, we receive it from where it came.' Then, a snake came out of its hole, and we tried to catch it, but it was faster than us and went back into its hole. He said, 'You were saved from its evil, and it was saved from your harm.'"

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَنَزَلَتْ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا قَالَ فَإِنَّا نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ جُحْرِهَا فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَدَخَلَتْ جُحْرَهَا فَقَالَ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ وَوُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا

[AI] "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when the Surahs were revealed to him and the messengers were recognized. So we would receive them from him. Then a snake came out from the side of the cave, so he commanded us to kill it. We rushed towards it, but it preceded us, and he said, 'It is protected from your harm just as you are protected from its harm.'"

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَأُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَجَعَلْنَا نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْهُ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ جَانِبِ الْغَارِ فَقَالَ اقْتُلُوهَا فَتَبَادَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا

[AI] "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the cave when a snake appeared before us. We tried to catch it, but it was faster than us and entered the hole. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'You were saved from its harm as it was saved from your harm.'"

And indeed, his mouth was wet with it so I do not know with which of these verses he sealed it: "So in what statement after it will they believe?" (Quran, Surah Al-Mursalat, verse 50) or "And when it is said to them, 'Bow [in prayer],' they do not bow." (Quran, Surah Al-Mursalat, verse 48)

[AI] "We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave when {By those [winds] sent forth in gusts} descended upon him. So I took hold of it from within the garment, and surely his mouth was moistened with it. I do not know which of those Surahs was the last revealed, {So in what statement after this will they believe?} or {When they are told, 'Bow down,' they do not bow down.} A serpent preceded us and entered a hole. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'You were protected from its evil just as you were from your own evil.'"

قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَتَبَادَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَدَخَلَتْ جُحْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ وَالْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا إِسْرَائِيلُ

فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ إِلَّا إِسْرَائِيلُ

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when the verse {And the wind-carrying clouds} was revealed to him. He said, "I feel that it is about to rain, so I will seek shelter from it." His mouth was wet when a snake appeared and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it!" But it escaped. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, it spared you from its evil just as you spared it from being killed."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ إِذْ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ {وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا} قَالَ فَإِنِّي لَأَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ غَضَّةً فَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ إِذْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْتُلُوهَا» فأَفْلَتَتْنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهَا وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا»

[AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave in Mina, when a snake jumped towards us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." We hurried to kill it, but it was faster than us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your evil has been prevented, just as its evil has been prevented."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ بِمِنًى فَوَثَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْتُلُوهَا» فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا»

[AI] "We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave when a snake came out. He said, 'Kill it.' But it was faster than us and he said, 'Your evil has been warded off, just as its evil has been warded off.'"

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ «اقْتُلُوهَا» فَسَبَقَتْنَا وَقَالَ «وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا»

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave when the sent angels came and I grabbed hold of their reins. His mouth was moist with it and I did not know which of the two sentences would be sealed: "So, by which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?" or "But when they are told, 'Bow down [in prostration],' they do not bow down?" Then it slipped away from him because of a snake that crawled into its hole, and he said, "You were saved from its evil and you were saved from its harm."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَأَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِيهِ فَإِنَّ فَاهُ لَرَطْبٌ بِهَا فَمَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهِمَا يُخْتَمُ {فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ} أَوْ {إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ} قَالَ وَأَفْلَتَتْهُ حَيَّةٌ فِي جُحْرٍ فَقَالَ «وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا وَوُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ»

[AI] Narrated Abdullah: We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave, and the messengers were revealed to him while we were gathered. We used to receive revelation from him when he was in a state of wetness. Suddenly, a snake came towards us, and we hurried to kill it, but it escaped. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your evil was repelled, and its evil was also repelled."

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ فَأُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَإِنَّا لَنَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ وَهِيَ رَطْبَةٌ إِذْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَابْتَدَرْنَا لِنَقْتُلَهَا فَانْفَلَتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ وَوُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا»

[AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ in a cave when the messengers came down to him. We received them from inside the cave when a snake appeared to us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." So we killed it. Then it went into its hole and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, it was saved from your evil just as you were saved from its evil."

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Mina when a snake appeared in front of us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Kill it." We rushed to kill it, but it disappeared before we could reach it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Your enemy has been protected from you, just as you were protected from its harm."

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِمِنًى فَوَثَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اقْتُلُوهَا فَابْتَدَرْنَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا
