66.37 Recite the Qur'an together as long as you agree about its interpretation

٦٦۔٣٧ باب اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ

bukhari:5060Abū al-Nuʿmān > Ḥammād > Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī > Jundab b. ʿAbdullāh

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Recite (and study) the Qur'an as long as you agree about its interpretation, but if you have any difference of opinion (as regards to its interpretation and meaning) then you should stop reciting it (for the time being).

البخاري:٥٠٦٠حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فَقُومُوا عَنْهُ

Recite the Quran while hearts are in harmony

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "Recite the Quran as long as your hearts are in harmony over it; when you differ, then get up and leave it."

[AI] Al-Harith ibn Ubayd and Sa'id ibn Zayd corroborated him from Abu Imran. Hammad ibn Salamah and Aban did not raise it to the Prophet ﷺ. Ghundar said, from Shubah, from Abu Imran: "I heard Jundab state it." Ibn Awn said, from Abu Imran, from Abdullah ibn al-Samit, from Umar, as his own statement. The route of Jundab is more authentic and more numerous.

البخاري:٥٠٦١حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سَلاَّمُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ عَنْ جُنْدَبٍ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ، فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فَقُومُوا عَنْهُ».

تَابَعَهُ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَأَبَانُ وَقَالَ غُنْدَرٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ سَمِعْتُ جُنْدَبًا قَوْلَهُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ عَنْ عُمَرَ قَوْلَهُ وَجُنْدَبٌ أَصَحُّ وَأَكْثَرُ

bukhari:5062Sulaymān b. Ḥarb > Shuʿbah > ʿAbd al-Malik b. Maysarah > al-Nazzāl b. Sabrah > ʿAbdullāh > a man Yaqraʾ Āyah

That he heard a man reciting a Quranic Verse which he had heard the Prophet ﷺ reciting in a different way. So he took that man to the Prophet (and told him the story). The Prophet ﷺ said, "Both of you are reciting in a correct way, so carry on reciting." The Prophet ﷺ further added, "The nations which were before you were destroyed (by Allah) because they differed."

البخاري:٥٠٦٢حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنِ النَّزَّالِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَجُلاً يَقْرَأُ آيَةً

سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خِلاَفَهَا فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ فَانْطَلَقْتُ بِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ كِلاَكُمَا مُحْسِنٌ فَاقْرَآ أَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي قَالَ فَإِنَّ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمُ اخْتَلَفُوا فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ
