that he said, “Thursday, and what a Thursday ˹it was˺!” Then he wept until his tears soaked the pebbles. He then said: The pain of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became severe on Thursday, so he said: "Bring me writing material so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray." They disputed, and disputing is not fitting in the presence of a prophet. They said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is feeling disoriented.” He said: "Leave me, for the state I am in is better than what you are calling me to."

At the time of his death, he gave instructions concerning three things: "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and grant delegations gifts in the manner that I used to grant them." I forgot the third.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ، وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ! ثُمَّ بَكَى حَتَّى خَضَبَ دَمْعُهُ الْحَصْبَاءَ، فَقَالَ: اشْتَدَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَجَعُهُ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ، فَقَالَ: «ائْتُونِي بِكِتَابٍ أَكْتُبْ لَكُمْ كِتَابًا لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا»، فَتَنَازَعُوا، وَلاَ يَنْبَغِي عِنْدَ نَبِيٍّ تَنَازُعٌ، فَقَالُوا: هَجَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ، قَالَ: «دَعُونِي، فَالَّذِي أَنَا فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا تَدْعُونِي إِلَيْهِ».

وَأَوْصَى عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلاَثٍ: «أَخْرِجُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ، وَأَجِيزُوا الْوَفْدَ بِنَحْوِ مَا كُنْتُ أُجِيزُهُمْ»، وَنَسِيتُ الثَّالِثَةَ

Thursday! And how great that Thursday was! The ailment of Messenger of Allah ﷺ became worse (on Thursday) and he said, fetch me something so that I may write to you something after which you will never go astray." The people (present there) differed in this matter, and it was not right to differ before a prophet. Some said, "What is wrong with him ? (Do you think ) he is delirious (seriously ill)? Ask him ( to understand his state )." So they went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him again. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave me, for my present state is better than what you call me for." Then he ordered them to do three things. He said, "Turn the pagans out of the 'Arabian Peninsula; respect and give gifts to the foreign delegations as you have seen me dealing with them." (Saʿid bin Jubair, the sub-narrator said that Ibn ʿAbbas kept quiet as rewards the third order, or he said, "I forgot it.") (See Hadith No. 116 Vol. 1)

ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ اشْتَدَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَجَعُهُ فَقَالَ ائْتُونِي أَكْتُبْ لَكُمْ كِتَابًا لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا فَتَنَازَعُوا وَلاَ يَنْبَغِي عِنْدَ نَبِيٍّ تَنَازُعٌ فَقَالُوا مَا شَأْنُهُ أَهَجَرَ اسْتَفْهِمُوهُ فَذَهَبُوا يَرُدُّونَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ دَعُونِي فَالَّذِي أَنَا فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا تَدْعُونِي إِلَيْهِ وَأَوْصَاهُمْ بِثَلاَثٍ قَالَ أَخْرِجُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ وَأَجِيزُوا الْوَفْدَ بِنَحْوِ مَا كُنْتُ أُجِيزُهُمْ وَسَكَتَ عَنِ الثَّالِثَةِ أَوْ قَالَ فَنَسِيتُهَا

Thursday, (and then said): What is this Thursday? He then wept so much that his tears moistened the pebbles. I said: Ibn 'Abbas, what is (significant) about Thursday? He (Ibn 'Abbas) said: The illness of Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a serious turn (on this day), and he said: Come to me, so that I should write for you a document that you may not go astray after me. They (the Companions around him) disputed, and it is not meet to dispute in the presence of the Apostle. They said: How is lie (Allah's Apostle)? Has he lost his consciousness? Try to learn from him (this point). He (the Holy Prophet) said: Leave me. I am better in the state (than the one in which you are engaged). I make a will about three things: Turn out the polytheists from the territory of Arabia; show hospitality to the (foreign) delegations as I used to show them hospitality. He (the narrator) said: He (Ibn Abbas) kept silent on the third point, or he (the narrator) said: But I forgot that. This hadith was mentioned through another chain.

[AI] Once, his tears turned to stone, and we said, "O Abu al-Abbas, what is the matter with Thursday?" He said, "The Prophet's ﷺ pain became severe, so he said, 'Bring me a paper and ink so that I may write for you a book after which you shall never go astray and differ.' The Prophet ﷺ should not allow any disagreement among his followers." They asked, "What should we do with it?" He said, "Sufyan means ask him, so they went to ask him again. He said, 'Leave me alone, for what I am in now is better than what you are calling me to.' He ordered three things and Sufyan said once he instructed three things. He said, 'Expel the pagans from the Arabian Peninsula and treat the delegation as I used to treat them.' Sa`id remained silent about the third. So I don't know if he deliberately remained silent about it or forgot it." And Sufyan said once, "Either he abandoned it or forgot it."

وَقَالَ مَرَّةً دُمُوعُهُ الْحَصَى قُلْنَا يَا أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ؟ قَالَ اشْتَدَّ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَعُهُ فَقَالَ ائْتُونِي أَكْتُبْ لَكُمْ كِتَابًا لَا تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا فَتَنَازَعُوا وَلا يَنْبَغِي عِنْدَ نَبِيٍّ تَنَازُعٌ فَقَالُوا مَا شَأْنُهُ أَهَجَرَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي هَذَى اسْتَفْهِمُوهُ فَذَهَبُوا يُعِيدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ دَعُونِي فَالَّذِي أَنَا فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا تَدْعُونِي إِلَيْهِ وَأَمَرَ بِثَلاثٍ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً أَوْصَى بِثَلاثٍ قَالَ أَخْرِجُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ وَأَجِيزُوا الْوَفْدَ بِنَحْوِ مَا كُنْتُ أُجِيزُهُمْ وَسَكَتَ سَعِيدٌ عَنِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَلا أَدْرِي أَسَكَتَ عَنْهَا عَمْدًا وَقَالَ مَرَّةً أَوْ نَسِيَهَا وقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً وَإِمَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ تَرَكَهَا أَوْ نَسِيَهَا

Thursday! And how great that Thursday was! [AI] The pain of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intensified, so he said, "Bring me something to write on, and I will write a book for you so that you will never go astray after it, and there will be no dispute in the presence of a prophet." They said, "Leave him, for what he is in is better than what you invite him to." He then gave them three commandments, saying, "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, treat the delegation in a manner similar to my treatment, and I forgot the third one."
