We created man––We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein––

with two receptors set to record, one on his right side and one on his left:

he does not utter a single word without an ever-present watcher.

The trance of death will bring the Truth with it: ‘This is what you tried to escape.’

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدࣱ

مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدࣱ

وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ

The Trumpet will be sounded: ‘This is the Day [you were] warned of.’

‘You paid no attention to this [Day]; but today We have removed your veil and your sight is sharp.’

The person’s attendant will say, ‘Here is what I have prepared’-

‘Hurl every obstinate disbeliever into Hell,

everyone who hindered good, was aggressive, caused others to doubt,

and set up other gods alongside God. Hurl him into severe punishment!’-

and his [evil] companion will say, ‘Lord, I did not make him transgress; he had already gone far astray himself.’

God will say, ‘Do not argue in My presence. I sent you a warning

and My word cannot be changed: I am not unjust to any creature.’

We shall say to Hell on that day, ‘Are you full?’ and it will reply, ‘Are there no more?’

وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ

لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِي غَفْلَةࣲ مِّنْ هَٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدࣱ

وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَٰذَا مَا لَدَيَّ عَتِيدٌ

أَلْقِيَا فِي جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدࣲ

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدࣲ مُّرِيبٍ

ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِي ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ

۞ قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِي ضَلَٰلِۭ بَعِيدࣲ

قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَيَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ

مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَيَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّٰمࣲ لِّلْعَبِيدِ

يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدࣲ

But Paradise will be brought close to the righteous and will no longer be distant:

‘This is what you were promised––this is for everyone who turned often to God and kept Him in mind,

who held the Most Gracious in awe, though He is unseen, who comes before Him with a heart turned to Him in devotion-

so enter it in peace. This is the Day of everlasting Life.’

They will have all that they wish for there, and We have more for them.

وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظࣲ

مَّنْ خَشِيَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبࣲ مُّنِيبٍ

ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمࣲۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدࣱ
