Ya Sin

By the wise Quran,

you [Muhammad] are truly one of the mes-sengers sent

on a straight path,

with a revelation from the Almighty, the Lord of Mercy,

to warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and so they are unaware.

The verdict has been passed against most of them, for they refuse to believe.

[It is as if] We had placed [iron] collars around their necks, right up to their chins so that their heads are forced up

and set barriers before and behind them, blocking their vision: they cannot see.

It is all the same to them whether you warn them or not: they will not believe.

You can warn only those who will follow the Quran and hold the Merciful One in awe, though they cannot see Him: give such people the glad news of forgiveness and a noble reward.

We shall certainly bring the dead back to life, and We record what they send ahead of them as well as what they leave behind: We keep an account of everything in a clear Record.

يسٓ

وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطࣲ مُّسْتَقِيمࣲ

تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمࣰا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَٰفِلُونَ

لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِيٓ أَعْنَٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَٰلࣰا فَهِيَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدࣰّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدࣰّا فَأَغْشَيْنَٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِيَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةࣲ وَأَجْرࣲ كَرِيمٍ

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْيِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَٰرَهُمْۚ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَٰهُ فِيٓ إِمَامࣲ مُّبِينࣲ

Give them the example of the people to whose town messengers came.

We sent two messengers but they rejected both. Then We reinforced them with a third. They said, ‘Truly, we are messengers to you,’

but they answered, ‘You are only men like ourselves. The Lord of Mercy has sent nothing; you are just lying.'

They said, ‘Our Lord knows that we have been sent to you.

Our duty is only to deliver the message to you,’

but they answered, ‘We think you are an evil omen. If you do not stop, we shall stone you, and inflict a painful torment on you.’

The messengers said, ‘The evil omen is within yourselves. Why do you take it as an evil omen when you are reminded of the Truth? You are going too far!’

Then, from the furthest part of the city, a man came running. He said, ‘My people, follow the messengers.

Follow them: they are not asking you to reward them and they are rightly guided.

وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثࣲ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ

قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مِن شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ

قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ

وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمࣱ

قَالُوا۟ طَٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُمۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمࣱ مُّسْرِفُونَ

وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلࣱ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرࣰا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ

Why should I not worship the One who created me? It is to Him that you will be returned.

How could I take besides Him any other gods, whose intercession will not help me and who would not be able to save me if the Lord of Mercy wished to harm me?

Then I would clearly be in the wrong.

I believe in your Lord, so listen to me.’

He was told, ‘Enter the Garden,’ so he said, ‘If only my people knew

how my Lord has forgiven me and set me among the highly honoured.’

After him We did not send any army from heaven against his people, nor were We about to:

there was just one blast, and they fell down lifeless.

Alas for human beings! Whenever a messenger comes to them they ridicule him.

Do they not see how many generations We have destroyed before them, none of whom will ever come back to them?

[Yet] all of them will be brought before Us.

وَمَا لِيَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَنِي وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ بِضُرࣲّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّي شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـࣰٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ

إِنِّيٓ إِذࣰا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلࣲ مُّبِينٍ

إِنِّيٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ

قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَۖ قَالَ يَٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِي يَعْلَمُونَ

بِمَا غَفَرَ لِي رَبِّي وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ

۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةࣰ وَٰحِدَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُمْ خَٰمِدُونَ

يَٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ

وَإِن كُلࣱّ لَّمَّا جَمِيعࣱ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ

There is a sign for them in the lifeless earth: We give it life and We produce grain from it for them to eat;

We have put gardens of date palms and grapes in the earth, and We have made springs of water gush out of it

so that they could eat its fruit. It was not their own hands that made all this. How can they not give thanks?

Glory be to Him who created all the pairs of things that the earth produces, as well as themselves and other things they do not know about.

وَءَايَةࣱ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبࣰّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِيلࣲ وَأَعْنَٰبࣲ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْۚ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ

سُبْحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
